Tools and Data

Tools and Data

In today’s world, where students are surrounded by instant answers from search engines, smart devices, and AI, it’s more important than ever to give them opportunities to use their own hands and simple tools—like screwdrivers, timers, tape measures, and multimeters—to collect and analyze data.

Too often, students rely on technology to do the thinking for them, which can limit their ability to reason through problems independently. By physically engaging with tools and gathering evidence themselves, they are reminded that information that comes from careful observation and measurement can be more reliable than what they read or generate online.

This hands-on practice strengthens critical thinking and problem-solving while preparing students to make thoughtful, evidence-based decisions in a world that increasingly demands both digital savvy and independent reasoning.

Tools and Data Fueling a 1-Day STEM Challenge Event

An electric vehicle manufacturing facility hosted middle school students for a custom Ten80 one-day challenge. On site engineers mentored students in using tools and collecting data to optimize their race car. Ten80 designed the activity and provided the team and gear for an exciting, high-energy, hands-on exploration of electric vehicles.  Real tools, authentic engineering experiences, and real data-driven results!
