Beginning in 2017, SEMA (Specialty Equipment Marketing Association) sponsored Ten80 to produce 7 – 12 events per year for 300-500 middle school students per event. CAS (Championship Auto Shows), MECUM and Barrett-Jackson hosted the events at their auto shows and auctions. Ten80 designed the event, promoted the event, registered participants, and provided all materials and staff to run the event.
Ten80 produces Student Summit events for SME (formerly known as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers), a nonprofit association dedicated to supporting the manufacturing industry. For Student Summits, 300 to 500 high school students visit SME’s industry trade-shows and engage in a one-day STEM competition. Ten80 develops the team-based educational challenges and provides staff to lead SME volunteers and students through the activities. More than just a passive look at manufacturing, students walk away having been given a customized, hands-on experience of the skills and opportunities available in the industry.
Ten80 partnered with the Capital Region BOCES of New York and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals to create a Cars and Chemistry camp. Students from two middle schools came together for a week of activity built on Ten80’s T-Square Model (Tech, Tool-Use, Teamwork, Tenacity) and featuring careers and concepts central to Regeneron’s industry.
Between 2012 and 2018, the U.S. ARMY sponsored Ten80 to produce 6 to 13 events per year. 500 – 1200 high school students attended each 1-day event. Ten80 produced the events from start to finish including securing venues, rentals, designing the event, promoting the event to its national network of educational partners, registering and communicating with participants, providing equipment and staff to run the event.
Denver Broncos sponsored and hosted Ten80 STEM Innovator-in-Training events for 500-700 students at Mile High Stadium over multiple years. The Broncos also engaged Ten80 to develop and activate a football-themed STEM activity to engage youth and adults in Mane Street at home games.
Lightning eMotors designs, engineers, customizes, and manufactures zero-emission fleet vehicles. Ten80 produces a one-day challenge at the Lightning eMotors facility in Loveland, CO for 100 local students. Hosting the event onsite allows employees to give back to their community while minimizing the time away from their critical jobs. Ten80 designs the activity, fills the event, communicates with schools, and provides the team and gear for an exciting, high-energy, hands-on exploration of electric vehicles. Lightning eMotors engineers have dubbed it the best volunteer day ever!
America Makes contracted and partnered with Ten80 to develop a toolkit that introduces middle school students to additive manufacturing. This toolkit became the center of a 1-day inspirational field trip to the America Makes headquarters in Youngstown, OH. Targeting 100 middle school students plus educators, the activities had students designing to solve a problem that could benefit from 3D printing as one tool in their toolbox (along with calipers, multimeters, coding, and math modeling). This was just the first of many such events to follow.
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Ten80 have partnered for over 10 years to support NSBE Jr. chapters and produce NSBE’s largest pre-collegiate competition. NSBE sponsors a Ten80 STEM Challenge league among its chapters that compete in the web-based points race and face-to-face at the annual NSBE Convention.
