Elementary Racing & J.R. STEM Challenges

The More You Go ... The Faster You Go!

Team and Project-Based Learning

Through the excitement of racing, students are introduced to problem solving strategies. They engage in a series of team-oriented challenges, applying science and math concepts and practicing important engineering skills to optimize their performance on track.

  • Science that Drives Speed
  • Technology as a Tool for Problem-Solving
  • Engineering Solutions and Performance
  • Math Modeling for the Win

Learning Outcomes

  • Learn the power of math in tackling challenges and improving scores.
  • Experience science principles in action.
  • Craft a world of numbers through measurements with meaning.
  • Practice teamwork and build tenacity.
  • Understand the purpose and how to use common measurement and hand-tools.
  • Provide opportunities for community partners to meaningfully engage with students.

ELEMENTARY (& SOME MIDDLE) SCHOOLS

Students use the same 1:10 scale electric RC car that middle and high school teams use, with age-appropriate challenges and mechanical restrictions on the car to control top speeds.

Ten80 J.R. STEM Challenge

ELEMENTARY

The J.R. STEM Challenge is inspired by Ten80’s CuS.T.E.M. Car events with SEMA Education, and the many thousands of students and teachers who raved about it being the “best STEM experience ever”!

Curriculum provides 15 – 30 contact hours, including  these challenges:

  • Ramp Rollers: What is the juuuuust right car and track design to hit your mark?
  • The Goldilocks Challenge: What is the juuuuust right payload to maximize efficiency?
  • Customize Your Ride: What is the custom car design that is juuuuust right for you? Can you light it up with circuits and LED’s?
  • Pitch Your Brand: 30-seconds is juuuuust right for an elevator pitch. Can you tell the story of your team’s brand before the buzzer?
  • Reverse Engineering: A toy dissection that is juuuuust right for revealing how moving parts work together.
