CARS THAT DRIVE THEMSELVES ⋅ CARS THAT RUN ON ELECTRICITY
These are the cars today’s students will ride in, drive in, repair, design, and engineer. How do we prepare them for this future and grow the STEM workforce we all need?
Invite students to become members of a team that collaborates and competes using a 1:10 scale autonomous electric vehicle (AV/EV)! Help them practice physical computing and coding, systems-thinking, teamwork and leadership. Show them the power of data and math modeling to maximize efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Demonstrate the importance of planning, preparing, and presenting.
Today’s robots are on our roads. Harness the awe of these 21st Century cars to build a critical foundation of 21st Century Skills.
AV / EV Technology

The AV / EV is a 1:10 scale chassis that students assemble from Tetrix® components, and then automate by installing and programming electronics, sensors and a micro:bit. The micro:bit is a Microsoft microcontroller that can be easily programmed in Makecode from any device with a web browser. Makecode is also available offline so an active internet connection is not required.
Beginners can start with drag-and-drop block programming and more advanced users can program it using the Python or Java-based text editor in Makecode.
Curriculum Included
Each AV/EV kit comes with a full set of materials, digital teacher’s guide, and downloadable student logbook. Curriculum includes:
- Introduction to AV / EV technology in today’s society and as a driving force of innovation
- Good Investigation Practices (data fluency through math modeling)
- Mechanical and electrical assembly instructions
- Challenges and other topics: Remote control (communications), Distance, Speed, Direction, Stay in your lane (lane departure assist), Obstacle avoidance
Additional Content, Support, and Competitions
Teams have the option to access additional content, support, and competitions through an annual license. This license includes:
- First-use web training with a live Ten80 team member
- Access to regular web meetings with other teachers
- Additional AV / EV lessons and challenges
- Enterprise lessons including project management and brand development
- An add-on Online Points Race which gamifies the curriculum through a team dashboard
- Opportunity to enter face-to-face competitions
